Back to School Night with Boys

Four boys is definitely NOT the same as having four girls. Also, it is not the same to have four elementary school kids rather than two high schoolers, one middle schooler, and one 4th grader. I learned all this the hard way.
On the night before school started, my ALMOST freshman son announced while I was doing dishes, “Hey mom, can you help me pick out my outfit for school tomorrow?”
I set down what I was washing and responded, “ That sounds like so much fun. Let’s go do that right now!” Bryan didn’t move. He just stared at me with an awkward grin, then a smirk, then a serious face. “What?” I asked him.
“This is the part where I am trying not to disappoint you because I thought you would know that I was just kidding.”
So I did not get the memo that he no longer wanted, needed, cared about my incredible input into his wardrobe. I also did not even realize that what he wore to school would be a decision that he would make at 6:37AM right after he brushed his teeth.
It’s my understanding that this is different for girls. :-)
